Teel’s efforts to improve racial justice in the PASSHE school system earned him the $2,500 award.

WASHINGTON, DC, October 23, 2021 /24-7PressRelease/ — A recent graduate of East Stroudsburg University, Brandon Teel is the recipient of Ben Crump’s Community Leadership Scholarship of $2,500. Teel’s winning essay detailed the work he completed while at ESU, including mentoring student athletes and championing an initiative for racial justice within the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education (PASSHE).

“I was involved with the Student Government, Black Student Union, Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., Cultural Greek Council, Men of Cultural Alliance, and the NAACP,” writes Teel. His membership in such organizations encouraged him to do all he could to better the social community at his school and beyond.

Teel served as Finance Chair of the Student Government Association, allocating funds to different student organizations during his time at ESU. Always striving to do more, he also connected with PA state senator Art Haywood to enact the ENOUGH initiative for racial justice. As a result of these efforts, says Teel, “PASSHE Board of Governors unanimously adopted a historic effort to include traditionally excluded Black and Brown students.”

Brandon Teel recently graduated from East Stroudsburg University and is seeking his Master’s degree in Public Administration with a Graduate Certificate in Sport Management and Athletics at the West Chester University of PA. “My future goals are to pursue a career working alongside high school athletic directors to mentor the upcoming generation through sports,” Teel said in an interview with Ben Crump representatives.

As someone whose dedication to the next generation is a driving motivator, Brandon Teel aligns well with attorney Ben Crump’s vision of social betterment and community leadership.
