Rosenberg & Gluck L.L.P. is proud to announce the winner of the Auto Safety and Technology Scholarship
LONG ISLAND, NY, September 12, 2020 /24-7PressRelease/ — Rosenberg & Gluck L.L.P., the Long Island, N.Y., personal injury law firm, has awarded its 2020 Rosenberg & Gluck L.L.P. Auto Safety and Technology Scholarship of $2,500 to Kailyn McMinn, 18, of Madison, CT. Miss McMinn, a freshman at Southern Connecticut State University, wrote a detailed essay about traffic safety that lines up with Rosenberg & Gluck’s commitment to raising awareness against distracted driving.
Miss McMinn detailed how much safer drivers are today than ever before, citing National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) statistics that in 2012, traffic accidents had a 56% lower fatality rate than in 1950. Much of this is due to federal safety standards and advanced commercial safety technology.
“(Modern technology) consists of antilock braking systems, traction control, airbags, electronic stability control, adaptive headlamps, lane departure warning, and the like,” she wrote. Yet, she wrote, this technology manages to lull drivers into relying too much on the safety features and not enough on their own behavior.
She quoted an AAA study that one out of every four drivers is comfortable changing lanes without looking because they rely on their blind-spot monitors.
For 23 years, Rosenberg & Gluck has served people who have been injured by another’s negligence, and many of these cases are traffic accidents. The firm established this scholarship to raise awareness about distracted driving.
Miss McMinn’s essay highlights what the Long Island firm already knows — too many drivers are lulled into a sense of safety and rely too heavily on sophisticated warning systems.
Miss McMinn is the daughter of Bryce and Angela McMinn, both teachers. Miss McMinn would like to follow the family tradition and become a special education teacher. She is a professional Alpine skier, a ski instructor, and a ski racer.
Her winning essay can be found on the firm site. For information on Auto Safety and Technology Scholarship, visit the site’s rules and regulations.
