Shortage of Skilled Cyber Professionals Set to Increase in Canada to 100,000 by 2023*

FREDERICTON, NB, September 08, 2020 /24-7PressRelease/ — EC-Council Canada (ECC) announced today the launch of a new partnership with Collège communautaire du Nouveau-Brunswick (CCNB) to counter the lack of cybersecurity professionals globally.

Not immune to the need for cybersecurity professionals, this new initiative will help Canadian companies increase their options for qualified human resources. According to a 2019 IDC Canada survey, the average cost of cyber incident response and recovery in Canada ranged from $4.8 to $5.8 million, up from $3.7 million the previous year, with organizations suffering an average of 12.5 breaches per year. As more organizations move online, this is only expected to multiply.

ECC, the global leader in cybersecurity training and education, works with global partners to expand this much-needed profession. This key partnership will provide CCNB access to advanced training material, new programs and specialized courses in cutting-edge simulation environments for beginners to advanced professionals. Faculty programs provided by ECC ensure that CCNB keeps abreast of the rapidly changing developments in the sector and meet International standards.

“Our rapidly changing world – one that is increasingly leveraging the internet for entertainment, education, banking and the running of our economy – requires people to have the latest education and certifications in cybersecurity,” said Heather MacLean, Executive Director, EC-Council Canada. “This partnership with CCNB, our first Francophone public college in Canada, will position the College, its students and New Brunswick, in a leading position.”

“CCNB is really excited for this partnership. EC-Council Canada is a leader in the world of cybersecurity and this will definitely supplement our offerings so our graduates can meet and exceed the expectations of the industry. Congrats and thank you to everyone that worked really hard to make this partnership possible,” commented Pierre Clavet, CCNB’s Executive Director of Business Development for Continuing Education.

During the last two years, CCNB has offered various cybersecurity programs, including a two-year program specifically for newcomers in the IT sector, aiming to turn students into adept entry-level cybersecurity employees.  A shorter 68-week program for Indigenous students is specifically focused on becoming proficient entry-level employees in protection and defense.

In addition, a new 60-week CCNB program has been developed for Indigenous students to upskill previous knowledge in IT in order to transition individuals to cybersecurity technicians. A 30-week, subsidized paid internship is a component of this program.

Part-time 20-week training is also available for businesses looking to advance the cybersecurity knowledge and skills of their IT employees, in order to protect and defend their networks.

“Plato Testing, an indigenous software testing company that we, at PQA, have been mentoring and supporting, has benefited greatly by its association with CCNB as its training institution of choice.  Their ability to understand our training needs and to adapt to our various constraints has been an important element in our company’s development,” said Keith McIntosh, President and CEO, PQA.

“A few of our employees have gone through their cybersecurity program, which has helped us feel more confident than ever that our clients’ data is well protected against cyber-attacks.  We are pleased to see that CCNB has joined EC Council as this will provide us with even more confidence that we are aligned with an institution that, like PQA and Plato Testing, strives to meet the highest standards,” said McIntosh.
