The Black Gay Men’s Health Month event is a part of a series designed to raise awareness on men’s health issues while commemorating the Life and Legacy of James Baldwin and amplifying voices in the African American community.

LOS ANGELES, CA, August 05, 2021 /24-7PressRelease/ — In honor of the 97th Birthday of Author and Civil Rights Activist, James Baldwin; the In the Meantime Men’s Group, and Sons of Baldwin Literally Lit will present We Are All Sons of Baldwin: The James Baldwin Experience.

Taking place on Tuesday, August 10, 2021, from 7:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. PST, featuring special guest Speaker, Actor, and Cultural Architect for Public Engagement, Charles Reese. He will be on hand to present dramatic excerpts from the Off-Broadway play-book James Baldwin: A Soul on Fire, followed by a community dialogue.

The stage play, written by the late Playwright, Howard B. Simon, edited by Reese, and with a Foreword by David Leeming (Baldwin’s Biographer), uses themes from throughout Baldwin’s life and writings while also portraying 1963 as a turning point in the Civil Rights Movement in the United States.

This live in-person program is a part of a series of workshops presented by In the Meantime Men’s Group, commemorating Black Gay Men’s Wellness Month, and will take place in the front garden at the historic Carl Bean House, home of the Los Angeles Black Aids Monument (LABAM) located at 2146 W. Adams Blvd. Los Angeles, CA 90018.

When asked about his passion for sharing Baldwin’s work and raising awareness for the health of black gay men, Reese states After a 16-month absence from my national and international travels with this highly popular Baldwin salon series due to the pandemic, it is great to begin again (as James Baldwin would say) at the Black Gay Wellness Month Literally Lit Series, as we look at how Baldwin’s works/words offer a healing balm during these challenging times.

Reese is also a recipient of the organization’s Medal of Honor Award which is given to incredible human beings who are changing the landscape and writing a powerful narrative of healing and empowerment.

Admission is free to the public and guests are encouraged to wear masks as Covid-19 health and safety rules will apply.
