Clyde Adams of Leeds, AL was instrumental in the resurrection of this historic collection of Broadway entertainers, chorus lines, and NYC society photographs. The results: 600 deteriorating negatives digitized, 2 websites. 2 books. History saved.
NEW YORK, NY, February 02, 2022 /24-7PressRelease/ — Yes, by far and away, the efforts by Clyde Adams have been herculean and without equal. His voluntary jobs to preserve the photographic portfolio of 20th Century Publicity photographer, Murray Korman, are through a love of the beautiful and historic images created by a man Clyde never met. In fact, when Korman died in 1961, Clyde was still a boy. And, it would be decades before Clyde would ever hear about Murray Korman.
Therefore, kudos to Clyde on his extraordinary efforts to bring back to life and preserve the photographic legacy of Murray Korman. If not for Clyde’s efforts, the Murray Korman Photographic Collection might still be sitting untouched in a New York City apartment closet. Adams was captivated by the story and images produced by Murray Korman so many years ago. He spent hundreds of hours digitizing the 600 deteriorating negatives for Korman’s family, created a website, wrote Murray Korman: The One Big Name, and is still working on finishing up Vintage Babes of Broadway.
From an interview recently:
Clyde, can you tell us what fascinated you about Broadway Publicity photographer, Murray Korman, to stay with this project over the long-haul of ten years?
“My fascination was slow to build, but is multileveled. I’ve long since had a fascination, and admiration, for the generation(s) of Americans who lived through the 20th century, especially the early part of the century. But specific to Murray, his amazing rise to prominence in his profession and in the arena of New York City, as an immigrant truly captured my fascination. That rise to fame, coupled with his tragic fall into obscurity, is the stuff Hollywood script writers dream of…”
“What would you tell “Book Lovers” who enjoy reading non-fiction historical biographies why they might enjoy “Vintage Babes of Broadway?”
“In regards to the brief biographies of Murray Korman subjects, I think readers will be surprised by how many are very famous, recognizable names within the world of entertainment. And, I believe readers will be equally fascinated by how many of those stars rose above extremely difficult circumstances to achieve their fame. Life during that era was far more difficult than we can understand or appreciate.”
Clyde’s skills in graphic design, bookmaking, research, and writing made it possible for him to bring the project all together to make for an enjoyable read in the second book “Vintage Babes of Broadway: Through the 20th Century Lens of Murray Korman. His co-author Maureen McCabe pitched in on various projects where she was needed. Publication is set for June 2022.
Clyde authored Always a Marine, a book documenting his father’s World War II experiences, and Murray Korman: The One Big Name, the extended life story about 20th Century Publicity photographer Murray Korman.
