Trigonal Gallery presents World Collage Day in partnership with Brooklyn Collage Collective. Exhibit runs May 3-31, 2021. Opening Night Zoom will take place on May 3 at 8PM EST, and will broadcast on Facebook with over 600 guests already confirmed.
NEW YORK, NY, April 30, 2021 /24-7PressRelease/ — “Collage has been one of the most relevant forms of art making,” artist Elliott Hundley once said. The universe agrees, because May 8, 2021 marks the fourth celebration of World Collage Day, where artists working in the medium connect across borders against a global context of entrenchment and separation to create new forms and ways of thinking. The innovative Trigonal Gallery is honoring World Collage Day with a nearly month-long exhibit on Artsy.net beginning May 3, featuring 27 visionaries skilled in crafting mixed-material masterpieces.
Trigonal’s World Collage Day is presented in partnership with the Brooklyn Collage Collective, the first internationally-recognized assemblage of collage artists. Among the exhibit’s most intriguing works will be pieces that evoke musical sensibilities, whether in pairing the visuals with a soundtrack or in reminding viewers of albums they love. Ken Butler, known as a pioneer of experimental music, and soul singer Kendra Morris, whose song “Banshee” can be heard on the hit show Ray Donovan, are bringing tuneful beauty to collage. Other headliners such as Winston Smith, acclaimed for his artwork with bands like Dead Kennedys, Green Day and Jello Biafra; and Syrian-born Kevork Mourad, whose technique of live drawing and animation in harmony with musical concerts has taken him around the world, particularly with Yo-Yo Ma’s Silk Road Ensemble; are sure to thrill art enthusiasts through their multi-sensory creations.
Kendra Morris recently released Sleep Flight, a spellbinding new piece created specifically for the World Collage Day show which combines collage animation and music. 10 exclusive non-fungible tokens (NFTs) of the artwork were created, which include a high-definition version of the music video and a music file of Morris’s song of the same name. No other versions of this song will ever be released, as it is solely available through the purchase of the NFT. The physical Sleep Flight artwork – one of the highlights of the exhibit – sold within minutes of the NFTs being promoted on OpenSea.
“I wanted to create something that pushed me to use every aspect of the artist in me,” says Morris. “I love sleep and the age-old mystery of where we go after our eyes are shut. I began to think of a bird child falling asleep only to be reawaken and carried from one plane to another in a sort of never-ending cycle.”
An Opening Night Zoom with the artists, Trigonal founder Jonathan Edward Goodman, and Brooklyn Collage Collective founder Morgan Jesse Lappin will take place on May 3 at 8PM EST, and will be broadcast on Facebook, YouTube, and Twitch. Over 600 guests are confirmed for the highly-anticipated Zoom Opening. From now through May 31, select artists in the exhibit will be featured on the weekly podcast series The Art of Art Business, hosted by Goodman and Lappin.
