Washington-based manufacturer adds new utility to the software for its Horizon series of industrial wireless radios
KENNEWICK, WA, March 09, 2021 /24-7PressRelease/ — ESTeem Industrial Wireless Solutions has unveiled a real-time monitoring utility as part of the ESTeem Networking Suite (ENS) software for its Horizon series of industrial radios.
Critical network health details are always available in the Horizon series through Modbus/TCP tags in each radio, but this data is now displayed in the same ENS configuration utility used for programming the radios.
This new function will display key operating statistics of the wireless network, including:
• Received signal strength (RSSI) values of the wireless link
• RF data rates
• Wireless connection status (connected/disconnected)
• Mesh network status, which details which links in the wireless network are being used
The process has been simplified to benefit the workers who operate wireless networks, said Dan Tolley, ESTeem director of business development.
“No changes to the network configuration are necessary to get real-time monitoring with the updated software,” he said. “Operators simply need to enable monitoring of the network, and the data will be displayed in the ENS utility.”
Simplification has always been at the heart of the ENS software, Tolley said.
ESTeem initially released the ENS software with its Horizon radios to simplify wireless network programming. This software provides user-friendly, click-and-drag visual programming, eliminating most of the programming errors experienced during the configuration.
The visual configuration platform in the ENS software makes creating a wireless link between radios as simple as drawing a line. If the radios are used in a mesh configuration, these too can simply be managed by entering the priority on each wireless link. The software makes network-wide changes (such as adjusting the frequency or network name or applying firmware updates) easy to manage.
That simplicity extends to expanding a wireless network, Tolley said.
Operators can add new sites to the network by entering a new radio’s information and drawing the link to the new site. All other sites in the network will adjust their configuration to this new location. The ENS software offers other great features, like the ability to save all the programming for each radio in the network to a single configuration file.
The real-time monitoring feature is provided to the ENS software at no additional cost and can be downloaded free from ESTeem’s web site. Operators will need to verify the firmware is current in the Horizon radios to enable and utilize this new feature.
